Signs Your Website Needs a Redesign
Most established businesses know when their website has fallen behind. It was built years ago for a business that has since changed, it looks nothing like the company you are today, and it quietly costs you customers who look elsewhere. If any of the following sound familiar, it is time to think about a redesign:
- The design looks dated next to your competitors, or next to the business you have become
- It is slow or awkward on a phone, which is where most of your visitors now are
- Making a simple change means waiting for a developer, or wrestling with a page builder
- Enquiries have dried up even though you are still busy through word of mouth
- Your services, team or branding have changed and the website has not kept up
- The platform it sits on limits what you can add, or needs constant plugin updates to stay secure
- You have outgrown a builder subscription and want a website you actually own
Our guide to website redesigns goes through each of these signs in detail and explains what a redesign involves from the client's side.
What Our Website Redesign Service Includes
Review of What Works
Before anything is designed we look at your analytics and your current pages to see which content brings visitors and enquiries, so the new site keeps what is working and fixes what is not.
New Structure and Page Plan
A fresh site structure built around your current services and customers, agreed before design starts, with every old page mapped to its new home.
Custom Design
Visual designs created around your brand and approved by you before a line of code is written. No templates, and nothing that looks like your competitors' sites.
Hand-Coded Rebuild
A fast, secure rebuild using modern technology such as Next.js and React, so the new site loads quickly on every device and is not tied to plugins or a builder subscription.
Content Migration and Redirects
Your existing content and images carried across, permanent redirects from every old web address and preserved page titles, so your search rankings move with you.
Launch Checks, Hosting and Support
Testing on a private server, checks for broken links at launch, an optional admin dashboard for updating content yourself, and managed cloud hosting from £20 a month afterwards.
Refresh, Redesign or Rebuild?
Not every tired website needs starting again, so the first thing we do is work out which of three approaches fits:
Refresh
Your site is structurally sound and reasonably recent but the look has dated. New visuals, typography and imagery applied to the existing structure, with content tidied up along the way. The quickest and least expensive option, but only sensible when the foundations are good.
Redesign
The most common choice for established businesses. A new design and a new build, with your content migrated across and your page addresses redirected. The site is rebuilt from scratch on a modern foundation, but the planning starts from what you already have rather than from nothing.
Rebuild
For websites that need to do more than they currently do: online booking, a members' area, a client portal, a searchable directory or an admin dashboard. The redesign is combined with new functionality, and the project is scoped and priced accordingly.
We will tell you honestly which one you need. If a refresh will do the job, we will not sell you a rebuild.
Any Platform: WordPress, Wix, Squarespace or Custom
We redesign websites built on any platform. Sites on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy and older custom builds are carried over to a new hand-coded site, and because the finished website is yours outright, you are no longer paying a monthly builder subscription or keeping a stack of plugins updated. Our platform comparisons explain the differences between these options if you are weighing them up.
If your website is already built on a modern JavaScript framework such as React and simply needs modernising rather than redesigning, our website update service is usually the better fit.
Website Redesign Costs and Timescales
A redesign is priced like a new website. Our website design prices start from £2,400 for a custom-designed site of up to around ten pages, and from £3,900 with an admin dashboard so your team can update content yourselves. Large content migrations, or new functionality such as booking systems, member areas or portals, are quoted on top, and we give you a fixed price before any work begins. Payment is a 50% deposit with the balance on completion.
If your logo and branding need bringing up to date at the same time, we can quote for a logo refresh alongside the website so the new site and the new brand arrive together.
Most redesigns take four to eight weeks from brief to launch. The two things that most often stretch that are the amount of content to migrate and the speed of feedback, so we plan both with you at the start.
How a Website Redesign Project Works
- Your requirements. You tell us what is wrong with the current site and what the business needs now. We review your existing pages and analytics, advise on structure and features, and give you a fixed quotation.
- Logic and visuals. We plan the new structure, map every old page to its new home and create visual mockups for your approval. Nothing is built until you are happy with the design.
- Development. We build the new website, migrate your content and set up the redirects, keeping you updated on progress with a realistic completion date.
- Testing and launch. You review the finished site on a test server, we make any final refinements and check every link, and then we point your domain at the new site and submit the new sitemap to search engines.

Website Redesign Questions
Will we lose our Google rankings if we redesign our website?
Not if the redesign is planned properly. We review which pages currently bring you traffic, keep the page titles and content that are working, set up permanent redirects from every old web address to its new equivalent and submit a fresh sitemap at launch. A well-handled redesign usually improves rankings because the new site is faster, better structured and easier for search engines to read.
Can we keep our domain name and email addresses?
Yes. Your domain stays exactly where it is and your email continues to work as before. At launch we simply point the domain at the new website. If you would like us to host the site we can do that from £20 per month, or we can hand over the complete code for your own hosting.
Can you redesign a WordPress, Wix or Squarespace website?
Yes. We redesign websites built on any platform. Your existing content, images and page addresses are carried over to a new hand-coded site, so you are no longer tied to a builder subscription or a pile of plugins that need updating. If your site is already built with Next.js or React, our update service may be a better fit than a full redesign.
How long does a website redesign take?
Most redesigns take four to eight weeks from brief to launch. The biggest variables are how much content needs migrating and how quickly feedback comes back. We give you a realistic completion date once the visuals are approved and keep you updated throughout.
How much does a website redesign cost?
A redesign is priced like a new website: from £2,400 for a custom-designed site of up to around ten pages, and from £3,900 with an admin dashboard so you can update content yourself. Large content migrations or new functionality such as booking or member areas are quoted on top. Payment is a 50% deposit with the balance on completion.
